Niagara Falls

John and I got to take a little trip the end of October last year. Niagara Falls is a nice drive from here. Not that 15 hours in the car that we usually do. We got to drive through some beautiful country and I was amazed to see the number of vineyards between here and Niagara.

We stayed in downtown Niagara Falls, just a few blocks from the falls. We had a lovely room at the Courtyard complete with jacuzzi and even a fireplace (thanks to an upgrade)! Everything was within walking distance.

Weather reports said temperatures in the 40's however, they were way off! We took clothing for 40 degree weather but were met with snow and ice the first night there!!! For that, we were not prepared.

We layered on the clothes and took a walk. A longgggggggggg walk. If you go, don't get caught up in all the touristy things, follow the paths beyond the falls. The Niagara River is beautiful with all
the rolling water crashing over rocks and churning into froth all before it crashes over the falls.

Take a drive to Niagara-on-the-Lake. We stopped by a number of wineries and tasted some wine, purchased some wine and toured Peller Estates. What a beautiful winery! It was all a lot of fun. You MUST try the Ice Wine. Small quantities, but a sample is a definite must.

We also tried out the Hard Rock Cafe ( with their $15 hamburgers); ate the best French Onion Soup I've ever had in my life and we ate AWESOME pizza baked in a brick oven. Guilt free after all the walking we did!

Another must see if the lighting of the falls. It's just beautiful. And don't forget to check out the duty free shops! Great bargains on perfume!!!
