Do you remember the part in National Lampoon's "European Vacation" when they're at the Louvre? Hurrying through the art work to stay on scheduled. Our trip to DC a couple of years ago felt like that. We had never been there before and we wanted to see everything! HA! Two days is no where near long enough! We got through one museum, 5 minutes in the air & space museum and most of the monuments, etc. Photos cannot begin to describe what you feel when you watch the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. What you feel as you walk by the list of names on the Vietnam Wall or the somber reflections on the Wall in memory of the Korean War veterans.
If you've never been...it will take your breath away. You will leave with a sense of country like you've never felt before. We really need to go back!
Some words of advice:
*Don't enter an underground parking garage with a pack on top of your SUV
*Write down the names of all of those monuments and statues that you take photos of, you really won't remember what they were
*Take some Kleenex and take your children.
*When they say it's time to leave, it's time to leave. Trust me, if you don't, they'll gently remind you that these places become US Military Installations after closing time!
Oh, and my daughter says...Lincoln is a LOT bigger than he looks on the penny!
