Bye Bye Big Dog

Pets have come and gone in my life, but none like this one. Hopefully, anyone who has had a dog has been lucky enough to have one like Wrangler. From the very first time I saw this dog, he had me wrapped around his paw. This tiny little black and white dog who didn't whimper, wiggle or squirm. We took him home when he was just 5 weeks old. He was up every hour all night long and my husband was quick to remind me that I was the one that wanted him, so I had to get up with him!

My husband named him Wrangler. He said because he just wrangled his way into our hearts. And that he did. He was so protective, so loyal and no dog behaved better. Yes, he ate a few shoes, but he was quick to learn that this was a big NO!

He would play ball until he couldn't run any more. He would lay down with me and keep me warm. He would always climb into my husband's spot on the bed when he got up to go to work. Nasty breath and all, he had sweet doggie kisses for you, never lapping your face, just softly licking your chin. You couldn't touch his feet! For that, he would bite you. But you could turn him on his head and he wouldn't think anything of it.

When he was about 2, we got a dog from the pound for my dad but he wasn't ready for a dog. We took her home and named her Wrigley. Wrangler was so upset with us that he refused to look at us. She grew on him and they became good friends. Wrigley was just too much for us and we were lucky enough to know someone who had a place for her. She is such a wonderful little dog in her new home.

A year and a half ago, we brought Stetson into our lives. He was a cute, energetic pup who immediately let Wrangler know he wasn't afraid of him! Wrangler would tolerate him for a while and then remind him who was here first. He never hurt him, just put him in his place. Stetson remains...

Last night, someone hit our wonderful Wrangler with their car and he is lost to us forever. We buried him in the back yard but are still reeling from it all. We've been through so much with him. Almost losing him twice, we couldn't imagine our family without him. If you ever need them, the vets at OSU vet hospital are the best and everybody loved him. He really did wrangle his way into your heart.

I hope that no one feels this pain. If you do, you may find some solace in this great bit of information .

I believe that Wrangler is in heaven, waiting for us and I'm sure that God is enjoying his company. I just thank God that he let us borrow him for a while. I would never have known what I was missing without him but I'm sure glad I got to find out.

I love you Big Dog...
